Details
The Vello FreeWave Viewer Wireless Live View Remote for Nikon contains a 3.5"" live view TFT-LCD monitor and 2.4GHz radio transmitter to provide a wireless viewing system that also enables remote shutter control from a distance up to 200' away from the camera.
The live view monitor features a 3.5"" display with a 320 x 240 resolution that is able to provide a real time view of what your camera is seeing. The monitor's design integrates a remote shutter release button that supports half-press control for pre-focusing and acquiring auto exposure settings. Additionally, an enlarge mode is available for magnifying details within the scene. A dedicated button allows switching between AV (live view) and CCTV modes for different perspectives of monitoring and a channel switch button permits changing between different transmitter channels. A 1/4""-20 tripod socket is located on the bottom of the unit and the brightness of the display can be manually controlled.
The transmitter can be attached to the camera via its hot shoe or to a 1/4""-20 threaded mount and connects to the camera using both an AV and a shutter release cable. The AV connection provides the live view signal for remote viewing on the monitor and the shutter release cable allows for wirelessly releasing the shutter from the monitor. A CCTV camera is also integrated into the transmitter's design and incorporates a 45mm lens (35mm equivalent focal length) to provide a slightly wider-than-normal perspective for viewing subjects in front of the camera. The CCTV camera is especially useful for situations when using a telephoto or long lens to photograph details and monitoring when a moving subject is about to enter the frame. Additionally this camera's functionality is ideal for use when the connected camera does not support live view or if trying to conserve the camera's battery life for extended viewing sessions. The 2.4GHz radio transmitter operates amongst four selectable channels for greater control when more than one unit is being used within 200' proximity.
Included with the transmitter and monitor are both AV and shutter release cables, which allow live view monitoring and shutter control with Nikon D700, D300/300s, D7000, D90, D5200, D5100, D5000, D3200, and D3100 DSLR cameras. If only controlling the shutter via the remote monitor and using the transmitter's CCTV as the viewing source, a wide range of shutter release cables are optionally available. The monitor requires four AA batteries for use and standby operation can last approximately 500 hours, while dedicated use will last approximately 10 hours per charge. The transmitter also requires four AA batteries and will last approximately 100 hours in standby mode and 8 hours in usage mode.
- Camera Compatibility
- The following cameras support live view monitoring on the wireless viewer when the AV cable is connected between the transmitter and camera:
Nikon- D700
- D300
- D300s
- D7000
- D90
- D5200
- D5100
- D5000

Additionally, remote shutter release and viewing using the built-in CCTV camera is possible by using an optional Vello RCC-C1, RCC-C2, RCC-N3, RCC-O1, RCC-O2, RCC-P1, or RCC-S1 cable for extensive camera support. - Wireless Monitoring and Shutter Release
- The combination of the wireless live view monitor and transmitter enables real time monitoring of the scene at hand using either the compatible camera's live view source or the transmitter's built-in CCTV camera. This allows you to remotely view your composition and release the camera's shutter from a distance, making it ideal for photographing wildlife or shy subjects or for placing the camera in difficult-reach-positions.
- Live View Monitor
- The wireless live view monitor has a 3.5"" (320 x 240) TFT-LCD screen for viewing either a live view image from the camera or a CCTV image from the transmitter's built-in camera. The viewer's design incorporates a shutter release button as well as controls for enlarging the transmitter's image, changing the radio channel, accessing the menu, and an LED power status indicator is also available for monitoring battery life. The shutter release supports half-press functionality for pre-focusing and setting the auto exposure and, additionally, single, continuous, bulb, and delayed shooting modes are supported. A 1/4""-20 socket is also integrated into the viewer for attaching to a stand or tripod. Power is provided to the viewer by either four AA batteries or a connected USB power source.
- Transmitter
- The transmitter operates over an ISM 2.4GHz frequency, with four selectable channels, and provides up to a 200' working range from which to view a live view or CCTV image on the wireless viewer. The transmitter connects to the camera with dedicated cables to both a shutter release and AV input, or just to a camera's shutter release port if using only the built-in CCTV camera for monitoring. The integrated camera uses a 45mm (35mm equivalent focal length) lens to provide a slightly wider-than-normal perspective of the scene in front of the camera, and can attach to a camera via its hot shoe. Alternatively, a 1/4""-20 socket is also incorporated into the design for mounting to a stand or tripod. The transmitter also uses either four AA batteries or a connected USB power supply as its power source.
